The Senior Network Specialist position on the Broadband Engineering - Market team requires the ability to assess project requirements, and determine the optimum physical solution balancing costs against central office, headend, or remote site constraints. Individual will partner with other engineering, construction, implementation, and project management teams to respond rapidly to incoming projects. Individual must be capable of creating high level physical designs and estimating costs quickly, and when necessary, produce detailed Engineering Packages to drive the equipment and material installation. The Broadband Engineering – Market team is regionally based, and Market engineers are accountable and responsible for the physical inside plant engineering and records for assigned companies and exchanges, and may be asked to work outside of assigned regions based on project volumes. This team is focused on high quality engineering of the physical components of TDS Telecom Central Offices, cable headends, and remote sites.

Responsibilities
    Provide high level design and detailed engineering for all physical aspects on many types of projects, including estimated capital costs, and allocations of those costs when needed.
  • Manage the design, engineering, and engineering records maintenance for assigned companies and exchanges.
  • Collaboratively prioritize work as needed to handle Expedites and Jeopardy situations in a timely manner.
  • Select and support and manage internal engineering contractors and external engineering vendors.
  • Partner with other Engineering teams to create a seamless Engineering function in the implementation pipeline.
  • Work with vendors to obtain quotes and issue purchase orders as necessary.
  • Work with Technology Development to update and maintain Standards as necessary.
  • Manage the Engineering process and workflow for continuous improvement; monitor internal customer feedback and conduct internal review sessions to ensure engineering output is consistent and high quality.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years' professional work experience
  • 6+ years' experience in Voice/Data/Video networking
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and insurance

Other Qualifications

 

  • Detail oriented
  • Central Office or cable Headend experience
  • Experience with fiber optic and copper cabling
  • Familiarity with AC and DC power equipment and HVAC implementations in both cabinet and building applications.
  • Experience with Broadband access technologies.
  • Understanding of Transport technologies including SONET, ATM, Ethernet, POS, DWDM, WDM.
  • Knowledge and experience with process management and improvement techniques.
  • Strong organizational, coordination, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to function in a team environment and individually.
  • Strong people skills and the willingness to be accountable for results.
  • A proactive approach to projects and issue resolution.
  • Ability to set own priorities as well as manage changing priorities for you and others and to handle several complex tasks concurrently.
