Job Description
Responsible to the Executive Director for sustaining a culture of philanthropy. Individual supports this culture through donor relations, staff/volunteer training and partnership with the Public Relations Manager as the Fund Development team. Plans, coordinates and implements development strategies that match organizational strategic plan Individual is responsible for relationship management with volunteers, donor management, research and cultivation, gift processing and recognition. Individual must have strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and organizational skills, as well as access to reliable transportation. Must exercise independent judgment, initiative and flexibility.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Create and Implement Philanthropic Culture
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and core fund development team to create strategic fundraising plans that align with the agency’s strategic plan.  Work collaboratively with the Public Relations Manager to ensure that marketing plan enhances fundraising plans and goals.
  • Establish goals, action plans, and benchmarks to build the organization's overall philanthropy program and donor base. Execute on action plans to meet to further the mission and vision of the agency.
  • Identify potential donors, solicit major gifts and nurture relationships with donors at all levels.
  • Mobilize the Board of Directors to maximize their support. Build relationships with board members to help identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Expand the agency’s connections through staff, board and volunteer contacts.
  • Research corporations and institutions, build relationships with stakeholders and present successful grant applications.
  • Establish performance measures, monitor results and evaluate the effectiveness of fund development efforts.
Fund Development Operations
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and internal financial compliance relating to events, donors, and ethical conduct for fundraising professionals.
  • Oversee and update agency donor database
  • Analyze donor trends and provide detailed reports regarding giving history, patterns and results
  • Work with finance department to reconcile development records with profit & loss statements to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Attend and utilize agency events and local business networking opportunities to build philanthropic giving and market the organization in alignment with the agency strategic plan.
  • Identify, cultivate, recruit, and develop fundraising volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor degree preferably in Marketing or Public Relations or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. 
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of three years of diverse fundraising experience, including major gifts, institutional giving, events and special campaigns. Preferably with a background or commitment to anti-poverty work and non-profit agencies.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as grant and funding requests, policy and procedure manuals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations and contracts.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills. A commitment to leading efforts to build a culturally diverse and competent environment.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and board of directors. 
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. 
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of basic math facts: adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, fractions and percentages. 
  • Ability to read and interpret budgets and financial statements.
 
REASONING ABILITY:  
  • Ability to visualize end results of a multi-faceted project, develop procedures to attain results within broad guidelines, apply policies and practices to resolve problems independently.
  • Ability to use analysis and judgment in the adaptation and interpretation of established practices and procedures to meet problems and situations within a defined role.
  • The ability to prioritize within an environment that includes multiple and competing deadlines.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  
  • Access to reliable, licensed, insured driver and transportation.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  
  • Individual must be passionate about the mission of the organization and cultural competency.
  • Familiarity with Rock and Walworth counties and issues related to poverty.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks simultaneously.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written skills are required.
  • Engaging, personable, and outgoing.
  • Advanced capabilities with Microsoft Office, fundraising, and grant tracking systems.
  • Experience taking initiative and working successfully with a fundraising team.
  • Ability to utilize electronic communication and social media tools for stewardship and marketing purposes.
  • Proficient ability to follow basic budget and financial transaction procedures. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records/information and establish priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and work in a deadline driven environment.
