MRA (The Management Association) is seeking a Business Development Manager to initiate contact with potential business prospects, generating qualifying leads, and converting those leads into MRA members across Wisconsin.


As a Business Development Manager at MRA, you get to:

  • Develop and execute a grassroots prospecting plan required for new membership sales.
  • Prospect for new leads, including networking, attending events, following up on referrals, and cold calling.
  • Prepare presentations for prospects, demonstrating MRA's value.
  • Overcome objections and negotiate with leads.
  • Maintain all relevant sales information in Salesforce, including contact information and all notes relating to the prospect.
  • Partners with marketing to create regular campaigns for nurturing leads.
  • Partner with other members of the Members Relations team to create prospecting processes, network, and gain referrals.
  • Makes outbound calls for grassroots prospecting and leads follow-up calls to potential customers by telephone and e-mail to qualify leads and sell new memberships.
  • Identify new trends and technologies that affect the sale of MRA products and services.
  • Keep fully abreast of market trends, including competitors, and share that information with the Member Relations team and Marketing.
  • Implement and execute a transition process for new members to sales team members for long-term engagement and retention.
  • Market MRA services, including training, local briefings, roundtables, and HR business solutions.
  • Prepare reports on all client/prospect interactions and all other tasks as assigned.
  • Travels to and attends trade shows or See and Be Seen visits.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Marketing, Sales, Human Resources, or General Business.
  • 5-7 years of experience in sales/business development, association management, or human resource-related field.
  • Excellent presentation skills (formal and informal).
  • Proven business development success, preferably in service sectors in consultative sales, preferably in the "sales hunter" role.
  • Excellent track record in taking the initiative and generating new business.
  • A passion for understanding and servicing businesses and developing partnerships.
  • Exemplary service standards and sales practices.
  • Proven experience in identifying new opportunities and working independently to find leads without waiting for inbound search engine optimization leads or marketing campaign results.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective presentation skills while working with technology.
  • Experience using CRM systems. Salesforce preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel in your own vehicle throughout your territory, including visiting members at their locations. Occasional travel to MRA offices in WI, IL, MN, and OH.
