How your role fits into Calnin and Goss:

Our GPS Survey & Modeling Specialist key responsibly will be to manage all aspects related to 3D modeling and GPS Grade Control activities for the company. This role is essential when working with Trimble Business Center software, creating 3D surface models, quality take-offs for bidding, job costing, and billing. Calnin and Goss continue to uphold the spirit of innovation and dedication to excellence, and we expect the same when splitting time between field operations, office, and training opportunities

What you get to do:

  • Create 3D surface models and quantity takeoffs in Trimble Business Center.
  • Integrate and verify accurate project information into rovers and machine control equipment and ensure GPS equipment and robotic total stations perform within the tolerances allowed.
  • Provide support for trouble shooting GPS equipment in field and office applications.
  • Teach and train current and future field surveyors.
  • Assist and independently prepares estimates and other deliverables and responsibilities required for such. Supports hard bid process.
  • Act as a liaison to connect, coordinate, and communicate between different members of leadership within the company.

What we expect from you:

  • Bachelor's degree in land surveying, engineering, or related field; an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proficient with current and future technology with civil construction.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Trimble and Non-Trimble, bidding, estimating, project management and takeoffs.
  • Occasional travel both locally and throughout Wisconsin to support project field work and additional training opportunities may require travel outside of Wisconsin.
  • Three years' experience with 3D surface modeling, and surveying. Experience with Trimble Business Center required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Advanced experience in boundary topographic, as-built, construction layout, and quality control surveys related to modeling and design of land development.
  • Knowledge of utility and roadway infrastructure required.
  • Valid Driver License.

Physical requirements and working conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to position objects and operate tools or controls. Employee occasionally uses computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to position self to maneuver in confined or awkward spaces. The employee regularly is required to remain in a stationary position and move to access people or machinery or workspaces. Employee is occasionally required to ascend and/or descend a ladder or stairs to reach work areas. The employee must regularly move up to 20 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to travel (as vehicle driver and as passenger on various modes of transportation) and frequently performs work on-site at construction work sites. Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee views computer monitor regularly. The employee is required to be able to effectively communicate while on the job site and throughout the completion of duties.

The working conditions of this positionrequires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/aridconditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to maintain safety and prevent exposure to harmful materials. The environment for which this position functions may be exposed to prolonged loud noises and may contain scents and fragrances. May be requested to work overtime and weekends.
